MATLAB Test Instructions
Please Read Carefully

Procedure

  1. Ensure all mobile phones are turned off.
  2. You should have nothing on your desk except pens/pencils and the scrap paper that will be provided.
  3. You may log in to your computer as soon as you arrive.
  4. You may download and save the test as soon as you are ready. It is located at:

Close your web browser completely once you have downloaded the test.

  1. You may Start MATLAB  BUT DO NOT OPEN THE TEST UNTIL TOLD TO DO SO. (The tests will begin at 11.20 (second session).
  2. You may use MATLAB Help, but no other form of assistance is allowed, except the material that you have from your LAB-diaries)
  3. Open a diary at the beginning of the session and when you have finished, SAVE YOUR diary + workspace (“save”), then close MATLAB THEN open a web browser and submit your worksheet by clicking on the "Submitting Assessments Online" link on the Student Home Page page and following the instructions.
  4. For security, you may also email a copy of your worksheet to mcc@maths.ed.ac.uk

While you are working on the test you should have only the test worksheet open. Do NOT open other Maple windows (other than the Help System). You are NOT permitted to have a web browser, messaging applications or similar applications open while working. (Close these things down fully - do NOT just leave them minimised in the Task Bar.) Violation of these rules is an offence against University Regulations and will be taken very seriously.

Your DIARY

  1. SAVE YOUR WORKSHEET REGULARLY AS YOU ARE WORKING, IN CASE OF COMPUTER/MAPLE CRASHES (diary off; diary does that job)
  2. Each answer should begin some indication about the example number done next;
  3. You are supposed to edit/clean your diary from unnecessary material. Turn diary off; then edit, and when you have saved the diary you can/should open the diary again. Alternatively you can open a new diary (keep the number of diaries very! small).
  4. In contrast to the instructions for the MAPLE group the output AND some comments should be left in the diary, because especially the comments might indicate what you had in mind or which alternative way you went (correct or not);
  5. Indent your code (the contents of proc's, if's and do's) for easy readability.
  6. Ideally simple sequences of MATLAB code (with output) should be compiled with clear indications, which example is concerned (e.g.  disp('Beginning of Problem 3'); and at the end disp('End of Problem 3');   Good Luck!  hgfei
