It is the purpose of this presentation to describe a "Gabor approach" to the (vague) idea of functions of variable band-width. There is a number of mathematical conjectures and basic facts about spaces of smooth functions which might serve the purpose well. The material could be the basis for a PhD thesis for one of the IK fellows. HGFei
