General Information

Public transport in Vienna is mainly operated by two transport authorities

  • Wiener Linien: The municipal transport authority responsible for
    • underground (German: U-Bahn),
    • tramway (German: Straßenbahn),
    • bus and
    • nightline bus network (during nights)

  • ÖBB: The Austrian Federal Railways responsible for
    • metropolitan railway (German: S-Bahn) and
    • local commuter trains

Ticket information

  • It is possible to travel within the whole city with just ONE ticket.
  • There are several types of tickets (single, day, week,...) available.
  • Tickets MUST be validated PRIOR to use!
  • All season tickets are TRANSFERABLE.

Where to get tickets?

  • Ticket machines, situated in every underground and metro station,
  • Single tickets are also available in trams (ticket machine) and buses (ask the driver), but at a higher price.
Ticket Price Explanation
Single ticket 1.80 EUR valid for one-way travel, changing lines allowed, 2.20 EUR when sold in trams or buses, valid in nightline buses
One day ticket 5.70 EUR valid for 24 hours after validation, valid in nightline buses
Week ticket 14.00 EUR valid for one week after purchase, valid in nightline buses
